Act of Valor – An Insider’s Look

Act of Valor was produced and shot by Bandito Brothers, a production company based out of Los Angeles, California.   Several things set this movie apart, especially its use of technology.  The movie was largely shot using the Canon DSLR and edited on Adobe Premier Pro, as well as Avid.  What is so special about that, you ask? At a preview hosted by Adobe, HP and Canon, we had Shane Hurlbut, the Director of Photography for Act of Valor, Jacob Rosenburg, CTO of Bandito Brothers, on hand to answer questions and talk about the making of the film. The use of the DSLR, specifically the Canon 5D Mark II, to film the movie allowed the Bandito Brothers greater flexibility in the film-making process.  They were able to use less equipment with a smaller crew, even gaining the advantage to shoot the movie from a first person view.  This technique pays homage to First-person shooter videogames, such as Medal of Honor or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare; a perspective not frequently seen on the big screen. … Continue Reading
